Kepler Mission

An eleven track album by Two Quiet Suns. Originaly released on March 20, 2012

Lovingly recorded using many synths owned and borrowed. Recorded to multitrack and mastered to two-track tape. Inspired by a film that never was, a journey to the edge of our solar system to install a telescope, with which to better see the Universe.

Artwork by Matt Tanner.

The TQS Kepler Mission began as an intensive, week-long collaborative improvisation by Bob and Rob, transforming the Hampton studio into an experimental lab filled with noodle machines. Through looping, layered synthesis, and extended jams, they recorded a broad splurge of material that Bob edited into the final album.

Over the next two years, the output was sculpted and arranged in Pro Tools before being recorded onto multitrack tape and finally mixed down to 2-track tape through an analogue mastering chain. The project combines exploratory electronic performance with old-school studiocraft.
This auditory adventure was created with synths and effects, including the DSI Evolver, Kurzweil PC3, Eventide pedals, and the Eventide Orville for those huge verbs; all piled into the OG Hampton studio. Final mixes were achieved using classic analogue hardware, including an SSL bus compressor, 1176 dynamics processor, and analogue EQ stages to create this glorious production.
